Job Description
As an Environmental Officer at Thiess, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our mining and civil projects adhere to the highest environmental standards and regulatory requirements. You will be responsible for implementing environmental management plans, conducting site inspections, monitoring environmental performance, and fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among project teams. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to sustainable practices in large-scale infrastructure and resource projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific environmental management plans (EMPs).
- Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and company policies.
- Investigate environmental incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit environmental reports to management and regulatory bodies.
- Provide environmental training and awareness to project personnel.
- Manage and monitor environmental data, including water quality, air quality, noise, and biodiversity.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders on environmental matters.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of environmental performance and systems.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental legislation, particularly in the Australian mining and civil sectors.
- Experience in developing and implementing environmental management systems (EMS).
- Proficiency in environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to conduct site inspections and audits effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience working on large-scale mining or civil infrastructure projects.
- Certifications in environmental auditing or specific environmental management areas (e.g., water management, rehabilitation).
- Knowledge of ISO 14001.
