Job Description

Are you a highly energetic individual with exceptional communication skills, capable of remaining calm and decisive under pressure? Ambulance Victoria is seeking dedicated Emergency Service Dispatchers to join our Triple Zero (000) team in Ballarat. This critical role involves answering emergency calls, assessing situations quickly, providing life-saving instructions, and dispatching appropriate emergency resources. You will be the crucial link between those in urgent need and the emergency services, demanding resilience, empathy, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. This is an on-site role that requires commitment to shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and process emergency Triple Zero (000) calls from the public with speed and accuracy.
  • Rapidly assess the nature and severity of emergencies to determine appropriate resource allocation.
  • Provide clear, concise, and life-saving pre-arrival instructions to callers.
  • Dispatch ambulances, paramedics, and other emergency resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of calls, dispatches, and ongoing incident status using CAD systems.
  • Liaise with other emergency services (Police, Fire) to coordinate responses.
  • Monitor ambulance movements and maintain situational awareness of operational capacity.
  • Maintain professionalism and composure in highly stressful and emotional situations.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated exceptional verbal communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to make critical decisions rapidly and accurately under pressure.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • High level of resilience, empathy, and emotional intelligence.
  • Strong geographical knowledge of Victoria, particularly the Ballarat region.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team-oriented, high-stress environment.
  • Reliability and flexibility to work a rotating roster including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a call centre, customer service, or emergency services environment.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or emergency response protocols.
  • Relevant certifications in first aid or emergency management.
  • Experience with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
