Job Description
Join CSIRO as a Data Science Intern focusing on Machine Learning and Python. This placement offers a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scientific and industrial challenges. You will work alongside experienced data scientists and researchers, contributing to projects that leverage advanced machine learning techniques and robust Python programming. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience in data collection, cleaning, model development, evaluation, and deployment within a leading research environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, cleaning, and pre-processing of large datasets for analysis.
- Develop and implement machine learning models using Python and relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Perform data analysis and generate insights to support ongoing research projects.
- Evaluate model performance and iterate on improvements based on feedback and results.
- Document methodologies, code, and findings in a clear and concise manner.
- Collaborate with senior researchers and data scientists on project tasks and problem-solving.
- Present findings and progress to the team during regular meetings.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Python programming, including common data science libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
- Foundational understanding of machine learning concepts, algorithms, and models (e.g., supervised, unsupervised learning).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Familiarity with SQL and database management.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Basic understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and data pipelines.
