Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Cost Engineering Lead to join our Major Infrastructure division in Wangaratta. This pivotal role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost control, forecasting, and reporting for large-scale, complex infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will lead a team of cost engineers, providing expert guidance and ensuring robust financial management from project inception through to completion. You will be instrumental in driving project profitability, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and mitigating financial risks. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of cost engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance management.
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive cost control systems and procedures for major infrastructure projects.
- Prepare detailed project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Monitor project expenditures, commitments, and actual costs against approved budgets.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide insightful reports to project stakeholders and senior management.
- Identify potential cost overruns, risks, and opportunities, developing mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with project managers, procurement, and engineering teams to optimize project costs and schedules.
- Oversee change management processes, ensuring all scope changes are accurately costed and approved.
- Participate in contract negotiations and contractor performance reviews related to cost impacts.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant financial policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in cost engineering or cost control, with at least 3 years in a leadership role on major infrastructure projects.
- Proven expertise in cost estimating, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting within large-scale construction environments.
- Strong proficiency in cost management software (e.g., PRISM, Oracle Primavera, SAP) and advanced Excel skills.
- In-depth understanding of project lifecycle, contract types, and commercial terms.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Project Management or a related discipline.
- Professional certification (e.g., AACE International Certified Cost Professional – CCP).
- Experience with various project delivery methods (e.g., PPP, Design & Construct).
- Familiarity with Australian construction standards and regulations.
