Job Description
Join Oxfam Australia as a Community Organizer and become a vital part of our mission to fight inequality and poverty. This role is perfect for passionate individuals dedicated to social justice and community empowerment. You will be responsible for building and mobilising local support for our campaigns, engaging with diverse community groups, and inspiring action on critical issues. This is an on-site role based in Belconnen, ACT, offering a unique opportunity to directly impact positive change within local communities and contribute to broader national and international advocacy efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement community engagement strategies to recruit and mobilise volunteers and supporters.
- Organise and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and public events.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders, organisations, and diverse groups.
- Educate the public on Oxfam's campaigns and advocacy priorities through presentations and outreach.
- Support volunteers in their activities, providing training, resources, and guidance.
- Collect and report on community feedback, participation data, and campaign progress.
- Contribute to the development of campaign materials and communication strategies.
- Represent Oxfam Australia at local forums and events.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in community organising, advocacy, or social movement building.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and mobilise diverse groups of people.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Proven capacity to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Understanding of social justice issues and a commitment to Oxfam's values.
- Proficiency in using CRM software and digital communication tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or culturally diverse groups.
- Knowledge of the Australian political landscape and relevant policy issues.
- Previous experience with a non-profit organisation or NGO.
