Job Description

As a Community Housing Officer, you will play a crucial role in managing our community housing portfolio, ensuring tenants receive appropriate support and properties are well-maintained. This position requires a strong understanding of housing legislation and tenancy management, coupled with a passion for community welfare. You will be responsible for fostering positive relationships with tenants, local government bodies, and other not-for-profit organisations to facilitate seamless service delivery and maximise positive outcomes for individuals and families experiencing housing vulnerability. Your work will directly contribute to Anglicare Southern Queensland’s commitment to providing stable and supportive housing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of community housing properties, including tenancy agreements, rent collection, and property inspections.
  • Provide person-centred support to tenants, connecting them with relevant community services and advocating on their behalf.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant housing legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies, referring bodies, and other not-for-profit partners.
  • Conduct regular property assessments and coordinate maintenance and repairs with contractors.
  • Address tenant inquiries, complaints, and disputes promptly and professionally.
  • Prepare reports on tenancy management, property status, and client outcomes.
  • Participate in community engagement activities to promote housing initiatives and identify tenant needs.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in property management, tenancy management, or community housing.
  • Strong understanding of residential tenancy legislation and relevant housing frameworks in Queensland.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage a diverse caseload effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and property management software.
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach when working with vulnerable individuals.
  • Current Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Property Management, or a related field.
  • Experience working with NFP organisations and government funding programs.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with client management systems (CRM).
