Job Description
We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Assistant to join our dedicated Infrastructure and Capital Works team. This entry-level role is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or individual looking to kickstart their career in civil engineering within a public sector environment. You will support senior engineers in various projects, from road maintenance and urban planning to drainage and public space improvements, contributing directly to the liveability and development of one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior Civil Engineers with project planning, design, and documentation.
- Conduct site inspections, gather data, and prepare reports on infrastructure conditions.
- Prepare preliminary designs, drawings, and specifications using CAD software.
- Support the tendering and contract administration process for various civil works projects.
- Undertake research and analysis of technical data, standards, and regulations.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external consultants, and community stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations on all projects.
- Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of civil engineering principles and practices.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience (including internships or placements) in a civil engineering environment, particularly within local government.
- Familiarity with relevant Australian standards and local government regulations.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies.
