Job Description
Join SMEC as a Cadet Surveyor and embark on an exciting career path with direct mentorship from seasoned professionals. This entry-level role is designed for individuals eager to learn the fundamentals of surveying in a practical, field-based environment. You will gain hands-on experience in various surveying techniques, contributing to critical infrastructure projects across the Mackay region. This mentorship program ensures comprehensive training and accelerated development in a supportive team setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Senior Surveyors with data collection, measurement, and site layout tasks.
- Learn to operate and maintain various surveying instruments, including total stations, GPS, and laser scanners.
- Participate in field surveys for civil engineering, construction, and land development projects.
- Assist in the preparation of survey reports, plans, and technical documentation.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and quality standards on site.
- Develop a strong understanding of surveying principles and industry best practices.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Strong mathematical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in an outdoor, field-based environment.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
- Genuine interest in a career in surveying or civil engineering.
- Ability to follow instructions and learn quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a construction or outdoor work environment (even part-time/casual).
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of spatial data and mapping concepts.
