Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Backstage Manager to lead our technical and stage crew for all productions at our Dandenong venues. The successful candidate will be responsible for the seamless execution of all backstage operations, ensuring the safety of performers and crew, and maintaining the highest standards of technical delivery. This role requires a strong understanding of theatrical production, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and efficient backstage environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all backstage operations, including set changes, props, lighting, sound, and stage management during rehearsals and performances.
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of backstage crew members, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Collaborate closely with directors, designers, and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth production flow and communication.
- Oversee the safe and efficient use of all stage equipment, tools, and machinery.
- Develop and implement robust safety protocols for all backstage activities.
- Manage production schedules, ensuring all technical requirements are met on time and within budget.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance checks on all stage equipment and facilities.
- Assist with the loading in and out of productions, ensuring proper handling and storage of equipment and sets.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a Backstage Manager or similar senior technical theatre role.
- In-depth knowledge of stagecraft, lighting, sound, and rigging techniques.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- A solid understanding of workplace health and safety regulations in a theatre environment.
- Proficiency in basic technical software for lighting and sound control.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal qualification in technical theatre, stage management, or a related field.
- Experience with various genres of performing arts, including drama, dance, and musical theatre.
- First Aid certification.
- Current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
