Job Description

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on children’s lives? Goodstart Early Learning Byron Bay is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic After School Care Assistant to join our team on a part-time afternoon roster. This role is perfect for individuals who love working with children, enjoy facilitating engaging activities, and are committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment after school hours. You will play a crucial role in supervising children, supporting their play and learning, and ensuring their well-being until they are collected by their guardians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise children aged 5-12 years during after school hours, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and age-appropriate recreational activities, games, and creative projects.
  • Assist children with homework or provide a quiet space for study as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and welcoming environment for children.
  • Communicate effectively and positively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Administer basic first aid if required (after appropriate training).
  • Adhere to all Goodstart Early Learning policies and procedures, including child protection guidelines.

Required Skills

  • A genuine passion for working with school-aged children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated reliability and punctuality.
  • Strong organisational skills and initiative.
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates or willingness to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in an after-school care, vacation care, or childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and My Time, Our Place framework.
