Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Diesel Fitter Lead to oversee maintenance and repair operations on heavy mobile mining equipment for our FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) projects. Based out of Bunbury, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our fleet, leading a team of skilled technicians in a dynamic and safety-focused environment. This role requires extensive experience with large-scale mining machinery, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Diesel Fitters and apprentices, fostering a strong safety culture and high performance.
- Plan, schedule, and execute preventive maintenance, diagnostic checks, and complex repairs on a wide range of heavy diesel equipment (e.g., excavators, haul trucks, loaders, drills).
- Diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company safety standards, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
- Manage parts inventory, tools, and workshop resources efficiently.
- Conduct on-the-job training and competency assessments for team members.
- Prepare detailed maintenance reports, fault logs, and service records.
- Collaborate with operations and planning teams to minimize downtime and optimize equipment availability.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance processes and equipment reliability.
Required Skills
- Australian recognised Heavy Diesel Fitter Trade Certificate or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a qualified Diesel Fitter, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role within a mining environment.
- Proven experience with CAT, Komatsu, Hitachi, or Liebherr heavy earthmoving equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
- Excellent understanding of safety protocols and risk assessment in a mining context.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
- Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- High Risk Work License (e.g., Forklift, EWP).
- Mobile Plant Operator competencies.
- Certificate IV in Engineering (Mechanical Trade) or equivalent.
- Experience with maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto).
- First Aid Certificate.
