Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Government Liaison Officer with a strong focus on communication to join our team in Berri, South Australia. In this pivotal role, you will be the primary point of contact between Telstra and various levels of government agencies, local councils, and community stakeholders within the Berri region and surrounding areas. Your main objective will be to foster positive relationships, communicate Telstra’s initiatives and policies, interpret government regulations, and advocate for our operational needs and strategic objectives. This role requires exceptional interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of public policy, and the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with government officials, local councils, and community leaders in the Berri region.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on legislative and regulatory developments that may impact Telstra's operations and strategic goals.
  • Represent Telstra in meetings, forums, and discussions with government bodies and stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver clear, concise, and persuasive communications, including briefings, reports, and presentations, on behalf of Telstra to government entities.
  • Facilitate effective communication channels between internal Telstra departments and external government agencies.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on government policies, procedures, and potential impacts.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership with government initiatives.
  • Manage and resolve inquiries and issues from government bodies in a timely and professional manner.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in government relations, public affairs, or a similar communication-focused liaison role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to different audiences.
  • Strong understanding of Australian governmental structures and legislative processes at local and state levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License and willingness to travel within the region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Relations, Communications, Law, or a related field.
  • Experience working within the telecommunications or infrastructure industry.
  • Familiarity with regional South Australian communities and political landscape.
  • Previous experience with regulatory compliance and policy advocacy.
