Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised School Bus Coordinator to manage and optimise our school transport services within the Belconnen area. This vital role involves overseeing the daily operations of school bus routes, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and providing exceptional logistical support. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills, dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor school bus routes and schedules for optimal efficiency and safety.
• Coordinate with local government agencies, schools, parents, and drivers to address transport needs and issues.
• Ensure all school bus operations comply with federal, state, and local transport regulations, including safety standards.
• Manage driver rosters, assign routes, and monitor driver performance, providing guidance and training as needed.
• Respond to and resolve operational disruptions, emergencies, and customer inquiries effectively and promptly.
• Maintain accurate records of routes, schedules, vehicle maintenance, and incident reports.
• Utilise transport management software to track bus locations, monitor schedules, and generate operational reports.
• Conduct regular audits and inspections of buses and routes to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance.
• Assist in budget planning and resource allocation for school transport services.
• Promote a culture of safety and service excellence among drivers and operational staff.

Required Skills

• Proven experience in transport coordination or logistics, preferably within a school or public transport environment.
• Strong understanding of transport safety regulations and compliance.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Proficient in using transport management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and decision-making under pressure.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience with specific transport management software (e.g., Trapeze, Optibus).
• Knowledge of the Canberra local area and school network.
• Current First Aid certification.
• Heavy Vehicle (HV) driver's license.
