Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Forestry Operations Lead – Resource Management to join our team in Belconnen, ACT. In this critical role, you will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of our forestry operations, from planning and harvesting to resource allocation and compliance. You will lead a team of professionals, ensuring sustainable practices, operational efficiency, and adherence to environmental standards. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned forestry expert to make a significant impact on our sustainable resource management initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor sustainable forest management plans in alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of forestry technicians and operational staff, fostering a culture of safety and performance.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of timber harvesting operations, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental compliance.
  • Manage resource allocation, including equipment, personnel, and budgets, to achieve operational targets.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure adherence to safety protocols, environmental standards, and operational procedures.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on operational performance, resource utilization, and sustainability metrics.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies, local communities, and industry partners.
  • Ensure all operations comply with relevant Australian forestry legislation, environmental acts, and industry best practices.
  • Implement and manage GIS and other resource management software for data analysis and operational planning.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Forest Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in forestry operations and resource management, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of sustainable forest management principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in GIS software and other forestry planning tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian forestry regulations and environmental legislation (e.g., EPBC Act).
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Certification in sustainable forest management (e.g., FSC or PEFC).
  • Experience with timber harvesting and logistics planning systems.
  • Experience working in the ACT region or similar diverse forest ecosystems.
