Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy student eager to gain practical experience within a leading NDIS provider? Therapy Focus is offering a unique internship opportunity for a dedicated student to immerse themselves in the world of occupational therapy, with a specific focus on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This role provides invaluable hands-on learning, mentorship from experienced therapists, and exposure to diverse client cases, helping you bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world practice. You’ll contribute to meaningful work that enhances the lives of individuals with disability, all while developing your professional skills in a supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow experienced Occupational Therapists during client assessments and therapy sessions.
- Assist OTs in preparing therapy materials and setting up for sessions.
- Support with administrative tasks, including documentation, report writing, and NDIS plan management.
- Observe and learn about the NDIS framework, including plan implementation and goal setting.
- Participate in team meetings and case conferences to gain insight into multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Engage with clients and their families under direct supervision, fostering a client-centred approach.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of therapy programs.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Occupational Therapy degree program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with people with disabilities.
- Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite.
- High level of professionalism and a proactive attitude towards learning.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Western Australian Driver's License (desirable for potential community visits).
- Current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or work experience in a healthcare or disability support setting.
- Basic knowledge or demonstrated interest in the NDIS framework.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
