Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Statistics Officer with a strong focus on data collection for projects aligned with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) methodologies and standards. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in Australia. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and overseeing data collection processes, ensuring the integrity and quality of statistical data. You will collaborate with project teams to ensure all data collection activities comply with ABS guidelines and contribute to the generation of accurate and insightful statistical reports. This role is ideal for a professional passionate about data quality, statistical accuracy, and making a tangible impact through reliable data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop robust data collection methodologies and instruments (e.g., surveys, questionnaires) in alignment with ABS standards.
- Implement and manage data collection processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to project timelines.
- Conduct thorough data validation, cleaning, and quality assurance checks to maintain high data integrity.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to clarify data requirements and resolve data-related issues.
- Document all data collection procedures, processes, and methodologies comprehensively.
- Provide technical support and guidance on data collection tools and techniques.
- Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of collected data, preparing preliminary statistical summaries.
- Stay updated with the latest ABS guidelines, statistical methods, and data collection technologies.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SPSS).
- Strong understanding of data collection methodologies and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to ensure data quality and integrity.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Familiarity with ABS data collection principles and standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- Prior experience working on projects involving ABS data or related government statistical agencies.
- Experience with survey design software (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey).
- Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations pertinent to statistical data.
