Job Description
Cleanaway is seeking a dedicated and experienced Lead Paint Abatement Tech – Specialised to join our team in Grafton, NSW. In this critical role, you will be responsible for safely and effectively identifying, containing, and removing lead-based paint hazards, ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental and safety regulations. You will play a vital part in protecting public health and the environment, working on a variety of projects within the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive site assessments to identify lead-based paint and conduct risk analyses.
- Develop and implement lead abatement plans in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Erect containment barriers, ventilation systems, and negative pressure enclosures to prevent lead contamination.
- Safely remove, encapsulate, or enclose lead-based paint using specialized tools and techniques.
- Operate and maintain a range of equipment including HEPA vacuums, air monitors, and power tools.
- Adhere strictly to all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and site-specific safety protocols.
- Properly package, label, and dispose of lead-contaminated waste in compliance with environmental guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of abatement activities, including work performed, equipment used, and waste manifests.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and team members on project status and potential issues.
- Ensure all work areas are thoroughly cleaned and decontaminated upon completion of abatement tasks.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Lead Paint Abatement Technician (minimum 2 years).
- Current Lead Abatement Worker or Supervisor certification (or equivalent nationally recognized certification).
- Thorough knowledge of relevant WHS regulations, lead-safe work practices, and environmental protection guidelines (e.g., NSW EPA, SafeWork NSW).
- Proficiency in the use of specialized lead abatement equipment and tools.
- Strong understanding of containment principles and negative air machine operation.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces while wearing PPE.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications such as Asbestos Removalist or Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with other hazardous materials remediation projects.
- Formal training in occupational health and safety.
