Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Shipwright specialising in marine repairs to join our dynamic team in Gosford, NSW. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking a wide range of repair, maintenance, and modification tasks on various marine vessels, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards of craftsmanship and safety. This role requires an individual with a deep understanding of marine structures, materials, and systems, capable of diagnosing issues and implementing effective, long-lasting solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural repairs and modifications on diverse marine vessels, including timber, fiberglass, steel, and aluminum hulls.
- Conduct repairs and maintenance on marine propulsion systems, steering gear, and deck machinery.
- Install, repair, and maintain marine systems such as plumbing, hydraulics, and electrical components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex marine faults and recommend appropriate repair strategies.
- Fabricate and fit custom components, ensuring precision and adherence to specifications.
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics accurately.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Operate various hand and power tools, as well as specialised marine equipment safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, project managers, and clients to ensure timely project completion.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on projects.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a qualified Shipwright with a strong focus on specialist marine repairs.
- Comprehensive knowledge of marine construction techniques and materials (timber, GRP, steel, aluminum).
- Proficiency in welding, fabrication, and composite repair techniques.
- Strong understanding of marine propulsion, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Commitence to workplace safety and quality craftsmanship.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade qualification in Shipwright, Marine Construction, or equivalent.
- Experience with specific vessel types (e.g., commercial fishing, patrol boats, luxury yachts).
- Certifications in relevant welding processes (e.g., AS/NZS 1554).
- Forklift operator license.
- First Aid certification.
