Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Sports Turf Manager to oversee the maintenance and development of our professional arena’s playing surface. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the turf meets elite-level standards for safety, playability, and aesthetics for AFL, rugby, and other major events. This role requires a hands-on approach, strong leadership skills, and a comprehensive understanding of advanced turf management practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of turf maintenance, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, aeration, and topdressing.
- Develop and implement comprehensive turf management programs and budgets.
- Supervise, train, and mentor a team of turf technicians and ground staff.
- Operate and maintain a variety of turf equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
- Conduct regular inspections and assessments of turf health, identifying and addressing issues promptly.
- Coordinate with event managers and team officials to ensure turf readiness for all scheduled events.
- Maintain detailed records of turf treatments, weather conditions, and operational activities.
- Stay abreast of industry best practices, new technologies, and environmental regulations in turf management.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and environmental standards.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience in managing sports turf for professional arenas or stadia.
- Proficiency in all aspects of turfgrass science, including soil analysis, nutrient management, and pathology.
- Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain specialized turf equipment.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Thorough understanding of irrigation systems and water management.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, Turf Management, or a related field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Sports Field Manager).
- Experience with warm-season turfgrass varieties common in subtropical climates.
- Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
