Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Steel Yard Hand to join our team in Mount Isa, Queensland. This role involves significant heavy lifting and manual handling within a busy steel yard environment. As a Steel Yard Hand, you will be crucial to the efficient movement, storage, and preparation of steel products, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to all safety protocols. We offer top hourly rates for the right candidates who demonstrate commitment, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload steel products from trucks and trailers using appropriate equipment and manual handling techniques.
- Organise and stack steel materials neatly and securely within the yard, optimising space and accessibility.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other machinery to move heavy steel items (where licensed and trained).
- Prepare steel orders for dispatch, including measuring, cutting, and bundling as required.
- Conduct regular inventory checks and report discrepancies.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment at all times.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Assist with general yard maintenance and other duties as assigned.

- Strong understanding and commitment to workplace health and safety.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a steel yard, warehouse, or similar industrial environment.
- Forklift license (LF) and/or overhead crane (CO) ticket.
- Basic knowledge of steel types and dimensions.
- First Aid certification.
