Job Description

We are excited to invite passionate and dedicated newly graduated nurses to join our esteemed Transition to Practice program as Graduate Nursing Interns. This comprehensive program is designed to support your transition from student to registered nurse, providing a structured and supportive environment where you can consolidate your knowledge, develop essential clinical skills, and build confidence in a variety of clinical settings. You will gain invaluable hands-on experience, guided by experienced mentors and clinical facilitators, within a rural and regional healthcare context. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, person-centred nursing care under the direct and indirect supervision of experienced Registered Nurses.
  • Participate in comprehensive patient assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Administer medications safely and accurately, following MLHD policies and procedures.
  • Document patient care accurately and contemporaneously in accordance with professional standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Engage in continuous professional development activities, including ward-based learning and formal education sessions.
  • Adhere to all relevant policies, procedures, and professional standards set by MLHD and regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Required Skills

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA), or eligibility for immediate registration upon graduation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to person-centred care and continuous professional development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Sound clinical judgment and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and challenging clinical environment.
  • Basic computer literacy for electronic health record documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting (e.g., Assistant in Nursing, student placement).
  • Understanding of rural health challenges and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new environments and learn quickly.
