Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Information Manager – Clinical Data to join our dynamic team in Brisbane. This pivotal role involves overseeing the management, integrity, and security of clinical data and health information systems within our facility. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with local and national regulations, facilitating data quality initiatives, and supporting the effective use of health information for patient care, research, and operational decision-making. You will lead a team, implement best practices, and contribute to the continuous improvement of our health information management processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of clinical data and health records.
  • Oversee the coding, classification, and abstraction of clinical information according to national standards.
  • Ensure compliance with privacy legislation (e.g., Privacy Act 1988), record-keeping standards, and ethical guidelines.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures related to health information management.
  • Lead and mentor a team of health information professionals, providing guidance and support.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, IT, and other departments to optimize health information systems and processes.
  • Support data analytics and reporting for clinical governance, research, and operational planning.
  • Participate in internal and external audits related to health information quality and security.
  • Identify and implement strategies for continuous improvement in health information management practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in health information management, with a focus on clinical data.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian health information standards, coding classifications (e.g., ICD-10-AM, ACHI, ACS), and privacy legislation.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and health information management software.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex data sets and ensure data quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Certification with the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and clinical data warehousing.
  • Project management experience in health IT implementations.
  • Familiarity with clinical auditing and quality improvement methodologies.
