Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Greenhouse Climate Controller to join our advanced horticultural operations in Bendigo. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the precise monitoring and management of environmental conditions within our state-of-the-art greenhouses. Your expertise will directly impact the health, growth, and yield of our crops, ensuring optimal production efficiency and quality. This position requires a proactive individual with a deep understanding of controlled environment agriculture and a hands-on approach to system operation and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and adjust greenhouse climate control systems (temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, light intensity, ventilation) to maintain optimal growing conditions for various crops.
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced horticultural equipment, including irrigation systems, nutrient delivery systems, and supplemental lighting.
- Analyze environmental data and plant responses to make informed decisions and refine climate control strategies.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all climate control infrastructure.
- Implement and adhere to integrated pest management (IPM) strategies in conjunction with climate control parameters.
- Maintain accurate records of environmental parameters, system performance, and crop growth data.
- Collaborate with growers and horticultural specialists to optimize crop cycles and yields.
Required Skills
- Proven experience operating and managing greenhouse climate control systems (e.g., Priva, Argus, Hoogendoorn).
- Strong understanding of plant physiology, crop science, and horticultural principles.
- Proficiency in environmental monitoring software and data analysis.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues related to climate control equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and decision-making under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Formal training or certification in greenhouse technology or climate control.
- Experience with large-scale commercial greenhouse operations.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency practices in controlled environments.
- Forklift license and experience.
