Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Bicycle Mechanic to join our high-end shop in Griffith, NSW. This pivotal role requires an individual with a deep passion for cycling, a meticulous eye for detail, and expert-level technical knowledge across all bicycle types, especially high-end road, mountain, and e-bikes. As the Lead Mechanic, you will not only be responsible for precision repairs and custom builds but also for leading and mentoring our workshop team, ensuring the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction. You will be the technical expert our customers trust and our team looks up to.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the workshop, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality service delivery.
  • Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on a diverse range of bicycles, including high-end road bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and e-bikes.
  • Specialise in complex repairs such as hydraulic brake bleeding and servicing, suspension tuning, electronic shifting systems (e.g., Shimano Di2, SRAM AXS, Campagnolo EPS), and carbon frame repair assessment.
  • Conduct custom bike builds, wheel building, and component upgrades with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Provide expert technical advice and recommendations to customers, ensuring their specific needs are met with precision and professionalism.
  • Oversee quality control for all workshop output, maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship.
  • Mentor and train junior mechanics, fostering a collaborative and skilled workshop environment.
  • Manage workshop parts inventory, ordering, and maintaining organised storage.
  • Ensure the workshop adheres to all safety standards and practices.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and uphold the brand reputation for excellence.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a bicycle mechanic, with significant exposure to high-end bicycles and components.
  • Expertise in diagnosing and repairing all bicycle systems, including drivetrains, brakes, suspension, and electronic shifting.
  • Proven ability to perform complex tasks such as wheel building, hydraulic system servicing, and custom bike assembly.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience in mentoring or supervising other mechanics.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, capable of explaining technical issues clearly.
  • Proficiency with workshop management software and computer diagnostics for e-bikes.
  • A valid Australian driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal bicycle mechanic certification (e.g., Cytech Level 3, Barnett Bicycle Institute, or equivalent).
  • Advanced certification in specific component systems (e.g., Shimano S-TEC, SRAM Technical University).
  • Experience with composite repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of electric bicycle drive systems and diagnostic tools.
  • A personal passion for cycling and active participation in the cycling community.
