Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic student eager to gain hands-on experience in a cutting-edge scientific environment? CSIRO is offering an exciting Laboratory Technician Intern position for a Scientific Testing Placement in our Joondalup facility. This internship provides a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, working alongside experienced scientists and technicians on real-world projects. You will contribute to critical scientific testing and research, learning invaluable laboratory skills and safety protocols in a supportive and innovative atmosphere. This placement is designed to foster your development, providing a foundational understanding of laboratory operations and scientific methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior laboratory technicians with routine scientific testing and analysis.
- Prepare samples, reagents, and equipment according to standard operating procedures.
- Accurately record and document experimental data and observations.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring cleanliness and proper functionality.
- Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety regulations and quality control standards.
- Support general laboratory upkeep, including inventory management and stock replenishment.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
- Learn and apply various laboratory techniques and methodologies.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Science, Chemistry, Biology, Biomedical Science, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of laboratory safety principles.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data recording.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior exposure to a laboratory setting through coursework or volunteer experience.
- Familiarity with scientific instrumentation.
