Job Description

Are you passionate about the arts and eager to gain hands-on experience in gallery operations? Belconnen Arts Centre is seeking a enthusiastic Junior Arts Intern with a focus on Gallery Management. This unpaid internship offers a unique opportunity to learn the intricate workings of a dynamic arts venue, contributing to the daily operations, exhibition setup, and public engagement initiatives of our visual arts program. You will work closely with our experienced team, gaining practical skills in art handling, inventory management, visitor services, and event support, all within a supportive and creative environment. This role is ideal for individuals looking to kickstart a career in arts administration, gallery management, or cultural programming.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, installation, and de-installation of exhibitions.
  • Support the Registrar in inventory management and documentation of artworks.
  • Provide front-of-house support, greeting visitors and answering inquiries.
  • Assist with gallery maintenance and presentation to ensure a welcoming environment.
  • Contribute to the promotion of exhibitions and events through social media and outreach.
  • Support event coordination for exhibition openings and public programs.
  • Perform administrative tasks as required to support gallery operations.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest and passion for the visual arts and cultural sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
  • Enthusiastic and proactive attitude with a willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree/diploma program (e.g., Arts Management, Curatorial Studies, Fine Arts, Museum Studies).
  • Prior volunteer or work experience in a gallery, museum, or arts organization.
  • Knowledge of contemporary Australian art.
  • Basic graphic design or digital marketing skills.
