Job Description
Are you an aspiring urban designer with a passion for shaping sustainable and vibrant communities? COX Architecture is seeking a highly motivated Urban Designer Intern to join our Penrith office. This is an unparalleled opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in a leading architectural and urban planning firm. You will work closely with our experienced team on a diverse range of projects, contributing to master planning, urban regeneration, public realm design, and policy development. This internship is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the practical application of urban design principles, fostering your professional growth in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of urban design concepts, master plans, and detailed design proposals.
- Conduct site analysis, research, and data collection to inform design solutions.
- Prepare presentations, reports, and graphic materials for internal and client reviews.
- Contribute to the development of design guidelines and policy recommendations.
- Participate in team meetings, workshops, and client presentations.
- Support the project team with various tasks, including mapping, diagramming, and rendering.
- Learn and apply relevant software for design, visualization, and documentation.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in urban design, architecture, and planning principles.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Excellent graphic communication and visualization skills.
- Ability to conduct research and synthesize information effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or Planning program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with 3D modeling software (e.g., SketchUp, Rhino, Revit).
- Understanding of sustainable urban development principles.
- Knowledge of local planning regulations and context in NSW, Australia.
- Previous internship or volunteer experience in a related field.
