Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Regional Lifeguard to join our team at a key coastal council facility in St Kilda. This vital role involves ensuring the safety of beachgoers, proactively preventing incidents, and responding effectively to emergencies along the beautiful Port Phillip coastline. You will be a visible and trusted presence, educating the public on water safety and maintaining a secure aquatic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols and surveillance of designated beach areas and coastal waters.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate potential hazards to public safety.
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to all aquatic and beach-related emergencies, including rescues and first aid.
  • Administer emergency care and provide advanced resuscitation as required.
  • Educate the public on water safety, local conditions, and regulations.
  • Maintain all lifeguard equipment, vehicles, and facilities to operational standards.
  • Accurately record and report all incidents, observations, and daily activities.
  • Collaborate with emergency services, local businesses, and community groups.
  • Assist with public events and coastal activities, ensuring safety protocols are adhered to.

Required Skills

  • Current Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) Bronze Medallion or higher.
  • Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificates.
  • Demonstrated strong swimming ability and excellent physical fitness.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and varying shifts.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working as a lifeguard in a coastal environment.
  • Advanced Resuscitation Techniques Certificate (ARTC).
  • Jet Ski Operator's License (Marine Licence).
  • Experience in marine rescue operations.
  • Local knowledge of the St Kilda foreshore and Port Phillip Bay conditions.
