Job Description

As a Patient Transport Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe, comfortable, and timely transport of patients to and from medical appointments, hospitals, and care facilities. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, respectful, and compassionate transport for patients, ensuring their comfort and dignity at all times.
  • Assist patients with mobility, including transferring to and from beds, wheelchairs, and transport vehicles, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked transport vehicle, conducting daily checks on equipment and supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and coordinated transport services.
  • Accurately complete patient transport records and administrative documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to all St John NT policies, safety protocols, and relevant health regulations.
  • Respond professionally to any unexpected situations that may arise during transport, escalating as necessary.

Required Skills

  • Valid Australian Driver's License (C class minimum) with a clean driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
  • Physical fitness to safely assist with patient mobility and handle medical equipment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Willingness to undertake and successfully complete comprehensive paid training provided by St John NT.
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and administrative tasks.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates (or willingness to obtain upon employment).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a customer service, care, or support role.
  • Knowledge of Alice Springs and surrounding areas.
  • Any relevant vocational training or certificates in healthcare support.
