Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Occupational Health Nurse to join our corporate health team in Bowen, Queensland. This vital role will focus on promoting, protecting, and restoring the health and safety of our employees within a dynamic industrial environment. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing health surveillance programs, managing workplace injuries and illnesses, and fostering a culture of proactive health management. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and a passion for occupational health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments and medical surveillance programs for employees.
  • Manage and respond to workplace injuries and illnesses, providing immediate care and coordinating follow-up.
  • Develop and implement health promotion initiatives and wellness programs.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide expert advice on occupational health matters to management and employees.
  • Participate in incident investigations related to health and safety.
  • Collaborate with safety teams, HR, and external medical providers to ensure holistic employee well-being.
  • Contribute to the development and review of occupational health policies and procedures.
  • Administer vaccinations and perform other preventative health services as required.
  • Educate employees on health risks, preventative measures, and healthy lifestyle choices.

Required Skills

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
  • Proven experience in occupational health, emergency, or general practice nursing, preferably within an industrial or corporate setting.
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in managing confidential medical information and maintaining accurate records.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of relevant occupational health and safety legislation and standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Experience with drug and alcohol screening protocols.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Spirometry and Audiometry qualifications.
  • Experience in mental health first aid.
