Job Description

We are seeking motivated and compassionate Nursing Students for a community-focused placement in Port Lincoln. This temporary role offers an invaluable opportunity to gain practical experience in community nursing, working closely with experienced professionals to provide patient-centered care outside of a traditional hospital setting. You will observe and participate in home visits, health promotion activities, and care coordination, focusing on the unique needs of individuals and families within the Port Lincoln community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in home visits and observe registered nurses providing care to patients in their residences.
  • Assist with basic patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and personal care under direct supervision.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of individualized care plans.
  • Document patient observations, care provided, and progress accurately and timely.
  • Engage with patients and their families, providing health education and support.
  • Participate in team meetings and case conferences to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Adhere to all SA Health policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of patient information.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Nursing program or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Possession of basic clinical skills appropriate for a nursing student.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach to care.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation (essential for community visits).
  • Current National Police Certificate and Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or community service setting (volunteer or paid).
  • Specific interest in community health, primary care, or aged care.
  • Completion of relevant foundational nursing units (e.g., medical-surgical, primary health).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
