Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Naval Architect to join our dynamic engineering team in Warwick, RI. This is an excellent career-path opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals passionate about maritime design, naval vessels, and advanced engineering challenges. The successful candidate will contribute to various stages of submarine design and construction, working alongside experienced naval architects and engineers on critical defense projects. This role offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and significant growth potential within a leading defense contractor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of submarine systems and structures, including hull forms, stability, hydrodynamics, and structural integrity.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Conduct calculations related to buoyancy, weight distribution, and trim.
  • Support senior naval architects in developing innovative solutions for complex engineering problems.
  • Participate in design reviews, testing, and trials.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including marine engineers, mechanical engineers, and production staff.
  • Ensure designs comply with regulatory standards and client requirements.
  • Learn and apply specialized software for naval architecture and engineering analysis.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field
  • Foundational understanding of naval architecture principles (hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, structural mechanics)
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • U.S. citizenship is required due to government contract requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Naval Architecture or a related discipline
  • Experience with FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, NASTRAN)
  • Knowledge of specific regulatory bodies (e.g., ABS, DNV, SOLAS) or military standards
  • Internship or co-op experience in the maritime or defense industry
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for engineering applications
