Job Description
Are you passionate about history, culture, and providing exceptional visitor experiences? The State History Trust of South Australia is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Museum Information Host to join our dynamic team in Port Adelaide. This is a unique opportunity to be the welcoming face of our cultural institutions, enriching visitors’ understanding of South Australia’s rich heritage. As a Museum Information Host, you will be the first point of contact for guests, providing warm welcomes, essential information, and guidance through our exhibitions. Your role is vital in ensuring every visitor has a memorable, educational, and engaging experience. Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet and welcome all visitors to the museum with a positive and helpful attitude.
- Provide accurate and engaging information about current exhibitions, permanent collections, facilities, and upcoming events.
- Assist visitors with ticketing, merchandise purchases, and general inquiries using the point-of-sale system.
- Guide visitors with directions and recommendations to enhance their exploration and overall experience.
- Handle visitor feedback, comments, and complaints with professionalism, empathy, and a proactive problem-solving approach.
- Monitor visitor flow and ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all guests.
- Support educational programs and special events as required, potentially assisting with setup or visitor management.
- Maintain a tidy, organized, and inviting information desk and reception area.
- Collaborate effectively and respectfully with other museum staff and volunteers to ensure seamless operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service or visitor engagement role.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- A genuine passion for history, culture, and heritage.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and point-of-sale systems.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm, composed demeanor under pressure.
- Availability to work weekends, public holidays, and occasional evenings as per roster requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a museum, gallery, or other cultural institution.
- Demonstrable knowledge of South Australian history and heritage.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- A relevant qualification in heritage studies, tourism, customer service, or a related field.
