Job Description
We are excited to offer a unique Medical Imaging Intern – Radiography Student Placement opportunity at Westmead Hospital. This placement is designed for enthusiastic and dedicated radiography students who are eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic clinical environment. You will work alongside experienced radiographers, observing and assisting in a wide range of imaging procedures, learning practical skills, and developing a deeper understanding of patient care in medical imaging. This internship is an invaluable opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting and to contribute to a leading healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Observe and assist qualified radiographers in various imaging modalities, including General X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine (as per departmental rotation and student scope).
- Learn about patient preparation, positioning, and safety protocols for different imaging procedures.
- Assist with patient communication and comfort during examinations.
- Participate in departmental meetings and educational sessions.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines, particularly regarding patient confidentiality and radiation safety.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to the overall efficiency of the department.
- Seek learning opportunities and actively engage with mentors and colleagues.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to skill development and clinical learning.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited university program for Diagnostic Radiography.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- High level of professionalism and ethical conduct.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient care and safety.
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to new situations.
- Current vaccination status compliant with NSW Health requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare setting.
- Familiarity with basic medical terminology.
