Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and organised Hospital Ward Clerk to join our team in Dalby. This vital role involves providing comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the nursing and medical staff within a hospital ward setting. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the ward, contributing directly to an efficient and caring environment for our patients. This position operates on a rotating roster, requiring flexibility and a commitment to patient-centred service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping.
- Schedule patient appointments for tests, procedures, and specialist consultations.
- Maintain and update patient medical records, both electronic and physical, in accordance with privacy policies.
- Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff, providing helpful information and assistance.
- Answer and direct telephone calls, taking messages and managing inquiries professionally.
- Order and maintain ward supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels for continuous operation.
- Assist with the preparation of patient charts and documentation for medical rounds.
- Liaise effectively with medical, nursing, allied health, and administrative staff.
- Support the general administrative needs of the ward, including filing, photocopying, and data entry.
- Handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and integrity.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in an administrative or clerical role, preferably within a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to multitask effectively under pressure.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a professional and compassionate approach.
- Proficiency in using computer systems, including Microsoft Office Suite and patient management software.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to patient confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including morning, afternoon, and night shifts, as well as weekends and public holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare administrative setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Completion of a Certificate III in Business Administration (Medical) or equivalent.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
