Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Government Receptionist at our State Department Office in Renmark. This vital role is the first point of contact for visitors and callers, providing essential administrative support and ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for all who interact with our office. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with excellent communication skills and a commitment to public service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a busy reception area, greeting visitors warmly and directing them appropriately.
  • Answer and route incoming calls, taking messages accurately and professionally.
  • Provide general administrative support, including filing, data entry, and managing incoming/outgoing mail.
  • Assist with scheduling appointments and managing meeting room bookings.
  • Maintain a tidy and professional reception area.
  • Handle inquiries from the public, providing accurate information or escalating to relevant departments.
  • Operate office equipment such as photocopiers, scanners, and fax machines.
  • Uphold confidentiality and adhere to government protocols and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a reception or administrative role (even if minimal).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Professional demeanor and strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Discretion and an understanding of confidentiality requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a government or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of local government services and community resources in the Renmark area.
  • Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain one.
  • First Aid certification.
