Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Dangerous Goods Driver to join our specialised logistics team in Cairns, Queensland. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of dangerous goods in compliance with all relevant national and international regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy vehicles, conducting pre-trip inspections, securing loads, and maintaining accurate documentation. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to a vital part of our operations, ensuring the integrity and safety of our clients’ sensitive cargo.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport dangerous goods, adhering strictly to ADR/ADG Code regulations and company policies.
- Perform daily pre-start and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects promptly.
- Accurately complete all necessary documentation, including manifests, logbooks, and delivery dockets.
- Load and unload dangerous goods using appropriate equipment and procedures, ensuring secure transit.
- Maintain a high level of situational awareness and proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, clients, and team members regarding delivery schedules and any issues.
- Adhere to all road transport legislation, fatigue management guidelines, and health and safety standards.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to dangerous goods transportation.
Required Skills
- Current Australian Heavy Rigid (HR) or higher driver's license.
- Dangerous Goods (DG) endorsement/license.
- Proven experience in dangerous goods transportation.
- Thorough knowledge of the Australian Dangerous Goods (ADG) Code.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Excellent driving record.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including loading/unloading and securing loads.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift license (LF class).
- Experience with various classes of dangerous goods.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle troubleshooting.
- First Aid and/or CPR certification.
- Previous experience with GPS tracking and electronic logging systems.
