Job Description
Join our dedicated team as a Cemetery Maintenance Hand and play a crucial role in maintaining the sacred and serene environment of our local cemeteries. This ongoing full-time position requires an individual who is physically capable, possesses a keen eye for detail, and approaches their work with the utmost respect and empathy. You will be responsible for the upkeep of grounds, gardens, and infrastructure, ensuring our cemeteries remain beautiful and dignified spaces for reflection and remembrance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, weeding, pruning, and tidying of gravesites and pathways.
- Prepare grave sites for burials, ensuring all necessary arrangements are in place with sensitivity and precision.
- Maintain cemetery infrastructure such as fences, gates, water features, and signage.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and small machinery safely and efficiently (e.g., mowers, trimmers, blowers).
- Assist with the setup and pack down for funeral services and commemorative events, working respectfully with funeral directors and families.
- Adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety regulations and council policies.
- Provide respectful and helpful assistance to visitors as needed, maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor.
Required Skills
- Proven physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding and experience with general grounds maintenance tools and machinery.
- High level of attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and empathetically in a sensitive environment.
- Valid Australian Driver's License (manual transmission preferred).
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in horticulture, landscaping, or grounds maintenance.
- Experience operating small plant machinery (e.g., mini-excavator, tractor) with relevant licenses.
- Current First Aid and/or CPR certification.
- Understanding of cultural sensitivities and customs related to bereavement and remembrance.
