Job Description
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Cadet Journalist to join our regional team in Mount Gambier, South Australia. This is an incredible entry-level opportunity for aspiring journalists to kickstart their careers within a respected public broadcasting organisation. As a Cadet Journalist, you will receive comprehensive training and mentorship, developing the foundational skills required to report across various platforms, including radio, digital, and potentially television. You will be immersed in the local community, learning to identify compelling stories, conduct interviews, and produce accurate, impartial, and engaging content that resonates with our audience in the Limestone Coast region and beyond. Key Responsibilities
- Undertake structured training and mentorship programs to develop journalistic skills.
- Assist experienced journalists in researching, gathering information, and fact-checking stories.
- Learn to conduct interviews with sources, community members, and public figures.
- Write and produce content for various ABC platforms, including radio, digital news, and social media.
- Attend community events, press conferences, and court hearings as required.
- Develop an understanding of media law, ethics, and ABC editorial policies.
- Contribute to daily news production, including identifying local angles and breaking news.
- Operate basic broadcast equipment and digital publishing tools under supervision.
- Engage with the local Mount Gambier community to build contacts and identify story leads.
