Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Bulk Goods Handler to join our team at the Port of Ipswich. This ongoing role involves the safe and efficient movement and management of various bulk commodities, including grains, aggregates, timber, and other heavy materials. You will be an integral part of our operations, ensuring materials are loaded, unloaded, stored, and transported according to strict safety protocols and operational standards. This position offers stable employment within a critical heavy industry sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy machinery, such as forklifts, shovels, and other bulk handling equipment, to load and unload vessels, lorries, and trains.
  • Monitor and control material flow and ensure accurate inventory management of bulk goods.
  • Conduct pre-start checks and basic maintenance on machinery and equipment, reporting any faults or issues promptly.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, contributing to overall site safety and efficiency.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Assist with other general port operations and tasks as required.

  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual tasks in a heavy industrial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating heavy plant machinery (e.g., forklifts, excavators, wheeled loaders).

  • Valid UK driving license.
