Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Bin Collector to join our essential Waste Management team. This full-time position offers the unique benefit of early starts, ensuring you finish your day early and have your afternoons free. As a Bin Collector, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of Katherine, operating modern waste collection vehicles and adhering to established routes and schedules. This role is physically demanding but incredibly rewarding, contributing directly to public health and environmental stewardship within our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate council waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently along designated routes.
  • Collect and empty residential and commercial bins according to scheduled pickups.
  • Perform daily pre-start and post-start checks on vehicles, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
  • Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations, council policies, and waste management procedures.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with the public when necessary.
  • Ensure all collected waste is delivered to the appropriate waste disposal facility.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and equipment.
  • Assist with other waste management tasks as required.

Required Skills

  • Valid C-class Australian Driver's License (manual transmission endorsement is a plus).
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to operational procedures.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand routes and complete basic paperwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Heavy Rigid (HR) or Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's License.
  • Previous experience operating heavy vehicles or waste collection equipment.
  • Knowledge of local Katherine area roads and geography.
  • Experience working in a council or public service environment.
