Job Description

The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to join our team as an Antarctic Research Support in a Federal Division Role. This critical position provides essential logistical and administrative assistance to our Antarctic research programs and operational deployments. Based in our Fremantle office, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth coordination of resources, personnel, and equipment vital for successful expeditions and ongoing scientific endeavours in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean regions. Your work will directly contribute to Australia’s commitment to scientific discovery and environmental stewardship in this unique continent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate logistics for research expeditions, including transport, accommodation, and equipment sourcing.
  • Manage and track inventory of Antarctic research supplies and specialised equipment.
  • Assist with the preparation and processing of operational documentation, permits, and reports.
  • Provide administrative support to research teams, including scheduling, correspondence, and data entry.
  • Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to ensure timely delivery of services and goods.
  • Contribute to safety briefings and ensure compliance with AAD and national safety protocols.
  • Support procurement processes for expedition-specific needs.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in logistics coordination or administrative support, preferably in a scientific or government context.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residency is a requirement for this federal role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Logistics, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of government procurement processes.
