Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Waste Management Intern to join our team in Geelong. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the waste management industry with a specific focus on circular economy principles. You will contribute to projects aimed at improving resource recovery, reducing waste to landfill, and exploring innovative solutions for sustainable materials management. This role is ideal for students or recent graduates passionate about environmental sustainability and eager to make a tangible impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the research and development of circular economy initiatives and waste reduction strategies.
- Support the analysis of waste streams and identification of opportunities for material recovery and reuse.
- Contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting on sustainability metrics and project outcomes.
- Participate in site visits to observe operational processes and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on special projects related to environmental compliance and innovation.
- Prepare presentations and reports to communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in waste management and circular economy.
- Provide general administrative support to the waste management and sustainability teams as needed.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Strong interest in waste management, recycling, and circular economy concepts.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of Australian environmental regulations and waste management policies.
- Previous volunteer or project experience in sustainability or environmental initiatives.
- Experience with data visualization tools or statistical software.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
