Job Description

Join WSP’s dynamic Building Safety team as a Junior Fire Engineer in Port Augusta, SA. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to embark on a rewarding career in fire engineering. You will contribute to a diverse range of projects, gaining hands-on experience in fire safety design, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance under the guidance of experienced professionals. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in developing fire safety strategies and performance-based designs for various building types.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments and develop solutions to mitigate identified hazards.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications in accordance with Australian standards and building codes.
  • Participate in site visits, inspections, and client meetings to support project delivery.
  • Contribute to the review of architectural and engineering designs for fire safety compliance.
  • Stay updated with the latest fire safety regulations, industry best practices, and technological advancements.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of fire dynamics, building codes (e.g., NCC), and fire safety principles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or work experience in a related engineering field.
  • Familiarity with fire modelling software (e.g., FDS, Pyrosim).
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia or similar professional body.
  • Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (AS) related to fire protection systems.
