Job Description

Join Great Adventures as a skilled and language-proficient Adventure Tour Guide! We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and engaging individual to lead our guests on exhilarating tours of the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding regions. This role is perfect for someone passionate about marine life, adventure, and cultural exchange, capable of delivering captivating commentary and ensuring an exceptional, safe, and memorable experience for our diverse international clientele. You will be an ambassador for Queensland’s natural wonders, sharing your expertise and enthusiasm daily.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging and informative tours to the Great Barrier Reef, Green Island, and other designated adventure locations.
  • Provide clear, concise, and entertaining commentary in multiple languages, with a focus on marine biology, local history, and conservation.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all tour participants, adhering to all company safety protocols and local regulations.
  • Assist with guest check-in, equipment distribution, and general logistical coordination during tours.
  • Respond to guest inquiries, provide recommendations, and resolve any issues with professionalism and a customer-first approach.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge about the tour destinations, local flora and fauna, and company products.
  • Conduct pre-tour briefings and post-tour debriefings.
  • Collaborate effectively with the crew and support staff to ensure seamless tour operations.
  • Represent Great Adventures with professionalism and a positive attitude at all times.

Required Skills

  • Fluency in English and at least one additional language (e.g., Mandarin, Japanese, German, French, Spanish) required.
  • Proven experience in guiding tours, particularly in adventure or natural environment settings.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills, with the ability to captivate diverse audiences.
  • Excellent knowledge of marine biology, the Great Barrier Reef ecosystem, and local natural history.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and guest satisfaction.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Tourism, Environmental Science, Marine Biology, or a related field.
  • Advanced dive or snorkel guiding certification (e.g., PADI Divemaster/Instructor).
  • Experience with marine vessel operations or maritime safety procedures.
  • Local knowledge of the Cairns and Far North Queensland region.
  • Additional language proficiencies.
