Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Automation & Robotics Intern to join our Advanced Manufacturing team in Cairns, QLD. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, development, and implementation of automated systems and robotic solutions within a dynamic industrial environment. You will work alongside experienced engineers on real-world projects, contributing to the optimization of manufacturing processes and the deployment of next-generation technologies. This role is ideal for students passionate about Industry 4.0, mechatronics, and artificial intelligence in an industrial context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, simulation, and programming of robotic cells and automated machinery.
  • Contribute to the testing, calibration, and troubleshooting of automation equipment and control systems.
  • Support the integration of new technologies, including sensors, vision systems, and PLCs, into existing manufacturing lines.
  • Participate in project meetings, documentation, and reporting activities.
  • Conduct research on emerging trends and technologies in robotics and advanced manufacturing.
  • Aid in the development and maintenance of technical specifications and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and improve process efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of robotics concepts, kinematics, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, C#).
  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A genuine interest in automation, advanced manufacturing, and industrial technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PLC programming (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
  • Previous experience with robotic simulation software (e.g., RoboDK, V-REP).
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping or personal robotics projects.
  • Understanding of industrial safety standards and practices.
