Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Shotfirer to join our dynamic team in the Hunter Valley region, operating near Maitland, NSW. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient execution of blasting operations within our large-scale mining and quarrying projects. You will ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations, company procedures, and environmental standards, contributing directly to our operational success and commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and execute blast patterns for various mining and quarrying applications, considering geological conditions and desired fragmentation.
- Safely handle, store, transport, and account for explosives in accordance with regulatory requirements and company protocols.
- Conduct pre-blast inspections, including perimeter checks, flyrock assessment, and ensuring all personnel are clear of the blast zone.
- Operate and maintain blasting equipment, ensuring it is in good working order and calibrated correctly.
- Maintain accurate records of blast designs, explosive usage, and post-blast reports.
- Coordinate with drilling teams, pit supervisors, and other operational personnel to ensure seamless integration of blasting activities.
- Implement and enforce all safety procedures and environmental controls related to blasting operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues arising during blast preparation or execution.
- Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Valid Shotfirer's Licence (NSW preferred)
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Shotfirer in large-scale mining or quarrying operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of blasting techniques, explosives, and associated equipment.
- Thorough understanding of relevant Australian blasting regulations, codes of practice, and safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blast plans and geological maps.
- Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding outdoor environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Surface Extraction Operations or similar.
- Experience with electronic blasting systems.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- HR class driver's licence.
