Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Youth Worker to join our Community Support team in Gladstone. This ongoing full-time position requires a passionate individual committed to making a positive impact on the lives of young people. The successful candidate will work directly with youth, providing support, guidance, and access to resources, fostering their development, and advocating for their needs within the community. This role is crucial in delivering person-centred support, developing case plans, and facilitating group activities that promote well-being and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support, counselling, and advocacy for young people aged 12-25.
  • Develop and implement individualised support plans in collaboration with young people, families, and relevant agencies.
  • Facilitate group programs and activities designed to enhance life skills, social connections, and community engagement.
  • Connect young people with appropriate external services, including mental health, education, employment, and housing support.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and funding requirements.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting healthy behaviours, self-esteem, and respectful relationships.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and professional development opportunities.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of young people within the local community and broader service system.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in youth work, social work, or a related field.
  • Relevant qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse young people, including those from vulnerable backgrounds.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development, trauma-informed practice, and child protection principles.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Youth Work, or Psychology.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and communities.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and networks in Gladstone and surrounding areas.
  • Experience in case management and group facilitation.
  • Proficiency in additional languages.
