Job Description
The City of Busselton is seeking a dedicated and proactive Multicultural Affairs Officer – Government Liaison to join our Community Services team. This pivotal role involves fostering strong relationships between diverse cultural groups within Busselton and various levels of government, community organizations, and local stakeholders. You will be instrumental in identifying the needs of our multicultural community, advocating on their behalf, and ensuring their voices are heard and integrated into local government policies and programs. The successful candidate will drive initiatives that promote cultural understanding, social cohesion, and equitable access to services for all residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between the City of Busselton and multicultural community groups, state government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Identify and assess the needs, challenges, and aspirations of Busselton's diverse cultural communities.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance communication and engagement with multicultural residents.
- Provide advice and recommendations to the City on policies, programs, and services that support multicultural inclusion and participation.
- Facilitate workshops, forums, and events that promote cultural understanding and celebrate diversity.
- Represent the City of Busselton at inter-agency meetings, committees, and community consultations related to multicultural affairs.
- Prepare reports, submissions, and funding applications to support multicultural initiatives.
- Stay informed about current legislation, policies, and best practices in multicultural affairs and government relations.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement, government relations, or multicultural affairs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse groups.
- Strong understanding of multicultural issues and community development principles.
- Proven ability to advocate effectively on behalf of community needs.
- Proficiency in project management and event coordination.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English, relevant to Busselton's diverse communities.
- Experience working within a local government context.
- Knowledge of funding opportunities and grant writing for community projects.
