Job Description
The Launceston City Council is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Public Service General Hands at all experience levels to join our operational teams. This is a vital role supporting various council services, including parks and gardens, waste management, infrastructure maintenance, and community facilities. You will perform a range of manual tasks, contributing directly to the upkeep and improvement of public spaces and services across Launceston. Key Responsibilities
- Perform general manual labour tasks, including digging, lifting, and carrying materials.
- Assist with the maintenance of parks, gardens, sporting fields, and other public amenities.
- Undertake basic repairs and maintenance of council property and infrastructure.
- Operate hand tools and basic power tools safely and efficiently.
- Participate in waste collection and disposal activities as required.
- Adhere to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
- Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating a positive and proactive attitude.
- Assist with event setup and teardown for community activities.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Commitment to Workplace Health and Safety.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Australian Driver's License (manual preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar general hand, labouring, or maintenance role.
- White Card (Construction Induction Card).
- Experience operating small plant equipment (e.g., mowers, whipper snippers).
- First Aid Certificate.
