Job Description

The Launceston City Council is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Public Service General Hands at all experience levels to join our operational teams. This is a vital role supporting various council services, including parks and gardens, waste management, infrastructure maintenance, and community facilities. You will perform a range of manual tasks, contributing directly to the upkeep and improvement of public spaces and services across Launceston. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general manual labour tasks, including digging, lifting, and carrying materials.
  • Assist with the maintenance of parks, gardens, sporting fields, and other public amenities.
  • Undertake basic repairs and maintenance of council property and infrastructure.
  • Operate hand tools and basic power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Participate in waste collection and disposal activities as required.
  • Adhere to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating a positive and proactive attitude.
  • Assist with event setup and teardown for community activities.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Commitment to Workplace Health and Safety.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License (manual preferred).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar general hand, labouring, or maintenance role.
  • White Card (Construction Induction Card).
  • Experience operating small plant equipment (e.g., mowers, whipper snippers).
  • First Aid Certificate.
